Update #1

We said our goodbyes to Mason at 7:30 am. Wiping away our tears, we kissed him and hugged him right outside the OR room as he dozed off to sleep from some sleepy meds.

We met Mason's surgeon, Dr. Olaf Reinhartz, and he reassured us that they would take good care of Mason. He feels this new heart is very strong and healthy and perfect for Mason.

At 8am the procurement transplant team landed with Mason's heart in San Jose (20 min. from Palo Alto.

They are preparing Mason with his IV's, central line, and anesthesia right now.

We will update as we have info.

What a beautiful Easter Sunday! Loves to all!

Summer and Mark--I woke up to a text from Aaron Brown that Mason was getting a new heart today. How quickly that text brought my life back into perspective. It truly is a miracle how these little kids' live do that to us. Although we have very little understanding of the depth of the roller-coast ride that has been your journey so far with Mason, Lisa and I had a glimpse of what these very hours are like. Your post has brought it all back, and I can barely restrain the emotions. The CVICU, the family waiting room, strangers who open their hearts and home to you, the hundreds who are praying for you, a Palo Alto reunion with the "big kids," LPCH and its amazing staff, and priesthood blessings--that's all the stuff of miracles. That's the stuff that makes my heart really tender right now.

I can't help but feel tender thoughts for the family of the little one who donated that heart. They are in our prayers today as well.

What are a perfect day for this surgery, and how blessed we are for literal resurrection of Christ. A new heart on the day that symbolizes life! Perfect. Love, Jeff Reeves

I am in TEARS!!! Our hearts join with yours in prayer today for Mason. We are listening to conference and checking in all of the time in hopes for more news! What an absolute miracle, especially that you can all be together as a family to lean on each other for support today. A testimony to me that Jesus Christ was risen from the tomb so that we could all be resurrected and live together again. I pray that this sweet donor family will have peace with that understanding on this miraculous Easter Sunday. We love you guys!!

How fitting that on the day that we celebrate the atoning sacrifice of our Savior, which offers eternal life to all mankind, that Mason will receive the gift of life himself.

Please know that our entire family is praying for you and exercising their faith on your behalf. One prayer has now been answered, and many, many more will be rendered for our little buddy and for your family.

We are celebrating Easter with my parents (who flew in from Texas) and grandparents and siblings. It has now been almost 4 months since my dad's transplant and this Easter is truly for us a celebration of the Lord's tender mercies and gratitude for new beginnings in life.

Cynthia and I are fighting back the tears to read of this long anticipated news. Certainly the Lord's hand is present in your lives. It's not merely by circumstance that Mark and the kids are there in CA as the gift of a heart comes on Easter morning.

We continue to pray for your entire family.

Oh Sum.
My kids think I am wiping tears from listening to Elder Cook's conference talk, but I am filled with emotion from the news: happiness and relief for you and baby Mason, and trying to comprehend the loss of the family who gave the ulitmate Easter sacrifice. My heart is full today.
Sum, you have been through so much, and I am in awe that the Lord has answered your prayers, and those of so many who follow Mason's story.
I was on-line quickly getting a recipe for later today, and now it seems so unimportant. Instead of ham and candy eggs, may your Easter be filled with the Saviour's love, the protection of angels, peace and reassurance, and a true Miracle for sweet Mason.
You are in my every thought and prayer. I
I love you Summer girl.
