Loving His New Heart

My sweet baby with a new heart.

Just a quick little update. I'm too tired to write any novels today!!

Mason is doing exceptionally well.

Through out the night the docs had to do some tweaking of a few of his meds, because his blood pressure was a bit lower than they wanted. It's just that post-surgery 'trying to find a happy balance' mode right now. They also did an echo late last night to check his heart function to make sure that wasn't a cause of the lower blood pressure. His function still looked great!! Sometimes because of the shock of transplant a heart can have temporary lowered heart function, but Mason's new heart is functioning very well. And his blood pressure his much better today.

Mason also has some junky lungs, which they've reassured me and reminded me is normal the first day after heart surgery. They probably will not extubate (take him of the ventilator) today though because of it. They would like him to lose more fluid build up first so that he will be successful at breathing on his own and not have any set backs. Probably tomorrow will be the day.

They had to put him back on a very low dose of sedatives today, because he keeps waking up and pulling on his breathing tube, central IV lines etc.... Mason is such a little fighter. He just wants to get right out of here and go play!!! Although, he does need to rest. The little stinker. Yesterday his body went through a lot!

No signs of rejection. As I said last night......SO FAR SO GOOD!! We hope and pray his body will just LOVE his new perfect heart like a match made in heaven.

I need to go find a place to nap, at least while Mason is still slightly sedated. I'm exhausted! But a very good exhausted I must say.

***Real quickly though, A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISH to big brother PRESTON!!!! He is 9 years old today. Preston is very tender and sweet to his baby brother Mason! He couldn't be more excited to be here in California to celebrate his birthday as we also celebrate Mason's new heart!!! We love you Preston!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRESTON!!!!!!

I have checked ALL day hoping for an update. I am so happy that he is doing well. K got the junky lungs as well after her transplant. Infact, she still gets them whenever she has anything done like heart caths or whatever. She does fine with them, just sounds yucky for a week or so.

Summer, he looks so great!!!! His skin color is beautiful. Get some rest!

I was born with Tetrology of Fallot and have undergone 2 heart surgeries. While my ordeal was nothing compared to what y'all are dealing with, I feel connected with your family. It will get easier, I'm living proof of that.
Thanks for the updates on Mason. So exciting that he got a new heart!
