Look at Me.........

I'm oxygen free!!

Mason has been on 1/4 liter the last 3 days and his saturations have been 98-100%. We've trialed him at room air for a couple hours at a time and he does great. Usually his saturations are 95-98%. Then when he gets sleepy sometimes he drops to 93-94%. (Which is still completely amazing to me!) So, then we put back on his O2's to help him out a little, especially when he's sleeping. Most likely though, he will be discharged w/ out O2's!!

Mason smiled a little more today! Yeah!

Mason was very happy to get his last chest tube out today. And, this made it a lot easier to hold him! I held him most the day. It has been great! All his numbers (blood pressure, heart rate, sats) continue to look good and the doctors are very pleased. We are staying in the CVICU still, at least for tonight. Mason has thrown up once yesterday and once today, most likely from just trying to get used to his feeds again along with a lot more meds than he was on before, so the ICU docs wanted to keep an eye on him today. The word I'm hearing now is that we will move to 3 west sometime tomorrow.

Although Mason's progress brings our family astounding happiness, today we had some sad moments too. It was time to say goodbye to our family. They are headed home to Utah. These are very difficult moments in out journey. But, at least now we can see a light at the end of the tunnel......hopefully we will reunite in July when Mason is recovered and we can go home. It was so fun to have them all here this week. We already miss them!

Please continue to pray with faith and hope with us that Mason's recovery will be smooth. That he won't have issues w/ rejection. As well as for his donor family who had to say good bye (until we meet again someday) to their child the night before Easter. They still need our prayers of comfort. I cry for them and hope someday I can personally meet them and express to them our love and gratitude.

Loves to all!!!

We continue to pray for that family too while we pray and rejoice for you.
So good to get tubes out each day, but the best part has to be the smile and the mommy hugs as he can be in your arms again.

He looks so much older! I compared the picture from the last day of March to this one and he has just grown and looks like a big boy. I love these pictures. I love to see him coming back to his old self. I am so sorry to have our family come home, but what a wonderful feeling to know it will not be an endless feeling of time before you will go home. I will pray he will continue to fly through recovery and the time will fly and you guys can be home again with your family.

Wow!! No O2?? Mason must just be delighted to have that freedom. I hope the transition to the recovery floor goes well and that Mason can get used to eating again!

I don't know if I have commented on your blog before or not but I have been following your little Mason after I found a link to your blog from Gracie G's.
I haven't checked in for a little while now so when I saw that Mason received his gift just now it brought me to tears. I am happy to hear he is doing so well.
My daughter who is a few months younger than Mason received the gift of a new liver last November, and it has made all the difference.
My prayers are with your miracle Mason and his donor angels family.

I know how hard it is right now for you when you think about the donor family. I used to sit in bed at night after Beckham's transplant, and cry because I knew another mother out there was probably crying at the same time and mourning her baby. It is such a hard (for lack of a better word) concept, with such beautiful results. We know have one of the most amazing relationships with Beck's donor family. We love them so much and then love our son.

Here is a couple of links that might give you comfort. One is from their blog, describing how they feel about organ donation (this was before we made contact with them.

The other is a post I did in August after Beck's 2 year transplant anniversary.

I hope they help. Lots of love and prayers. Mason looks incredible!

When I was a baby I had open heart surgery and I have the same scare as Mason. I have never seen someone with the same scare. That is neat! :) I am so happy to hear more good news! :) You guys are in my prayers everyday, praying the good news never stops! :)

He looks wonderful Summer! He looks so happy and his coloring is amazing. My daughter Madison has a big scar down the front of her just like Mason's and we feel that makes her such a special person. I hope Mason grows up to know what a special little guy he is. I continue to pray for you and am so happy to see such amazing progress.
