Giant Steps

Usually Mason takes baby steps during his recoveries, but this time he seems to be taking giant steps! He hasn't been on O2 for 24 hours now!!! His saturations have been 96-99% on room air which is absolutely perfect. What a blessing his new heart is! It has truly given him new life. Mason had been on full-time O2's for a year now, so this is soooo exciting.

Today, the nurse and I took Mason on a walk around the 2nd and 3rd floors. I got him to leave his mask on even, because I told him if he wanted to go for a walk in his stroller then he had to wear a mask. And he did! He was so happy to go for a walk. He was waving to everyone saying "Hi!". He has smiled a lot more today and I love it! He has also enjoyed playing more with toys today. His energy is starting to increase slowly since surgery......I can't wait to see him walking soon!

This afternoon Mason was discharged from the CVICU and moved to 3 West (like the 3rd floor- surgical unit at Primary's). All the nurses were cheering Mason on when we left. We have had excellent nurses here that have taken great care of Mason both pre-and post-transplant. (Just like our great nurses at Primary's.) Our new private room is quite a bit roomier and I requested Mason a regular bed so I can snuggle with him to get him to sleep.

We will be here for 1-2 more weeks as the docs monitor his medicine levels (especially his cyclosporin level), watch his heart function etc....and Mason will have his first scheduled heart cath/ biopsy (to check for rejection) on Tuesday. I must say I am nervous about the biopsy. I'm holding on to my FAITH and HOPE, that has carried me along thus far, to prepare me for Tuesday. Praying that Mason will continue forward with more giant steps.

Mason needs some snuggling. I will update again soon.

That is so exciting to be able to take him for walks, and see how happy he is. Just remember it has been a long road, but right around the corner you will be in your own home with him running around his own yard. I can't wait to see pictures of that. Keep getting stonger Mason, and hold on momma. :)

Hi Summer, I've been following your little family and Miracle Mason for a while now but have never commented. My family and I also live in Highland and my four year old son Jared, had a kidney transplant just after he turned two. I just wanted to let you know that we are praying for you and we are so grateful that Mason is doing so well and finally received his beautiful angel heart! The transplant journey is such a surreal experience! I still can't believe that my Jared has a beautiful angel kidney that has given him life! It is such a blessing! We are still praying for you and Mason and are hoping that everything continues to go so smoothly. Hang in there!

I have to get my little Mason fix everyday. I am so ex tactic at his recovery. It is so wonderful to sit back and see Gods wonders. Good job Mason you are doing awesome!! We will send extra prayers your way for the cath, they are very nerve racking. I remember thinking, why was I so nervous about the heart cath when I had just sent my son for a heart transplant and we had gotten through that. It will be ok, he will do great.

I am just catching up after a spring break vacation! What wonderful news and tears of joy!!! I am so humbled and amazed watching God work through you in delivering Mason a new heart. Today is Ava's 9th birthday- a day we never thought we'd see, but thanking God for His grace and miracle in bringing her this far. May He continue to watch over your family and bring you all safely together again soon.

Just gave this verse to Kristi and Gabriella, maybe you can use it too. Psalm 4:8 "I will lie dwon in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety." Jesus will keep MIRACLE Mason safe tomorrow and the rest of his days. :) Still praying though! :) So happy he got to take a walk and get out of his room! That is so awesome! THANK YOU JESUS!!!!
