Doing Well

I am sorry for the late update. Mason would not let me out of his sight or even let me leave his bedside for 2 minute without becoming extremely upset! I finally got him to sleep just a few minutes ago.

Mason was done with his cath around 2:15. By 2:30 I was with him in the CVICU. He was very glad to see me when I walked in, but of course very upset to be in a hospital crib! He was doing very well though for just coming out of a 4 hour heart cath.

I spoke with the CATH Dr. at the bedside. She explained that: 1) she did coil (close off) two large collaterals which should help the efficiency if his O2 saturation. (And it seems that it has.... on 1 liter of O2 he has gone up to 90% a few times. He normally needs anywhere from 1/2 liter to 1 liter to saturate at 78 %). 2) she decided not balloon or stint his upper left pulmonary vein. But the good news is that she did see that the upper vein is still open. It is quite small but still open all the way to the left lung. The lower one was non existent as suspected. She did not want to make things worse by irritating the upper vein with the balloon. She hopes that with a new heart and normal blood- O2 flow that vein may work. With the Glenn, that Mason has had, the blood flow has been redirected (it does not flow like a normal healthy heart) and then with a completely obstructed lower pulmonary vein as well...... his body has just dealt with it somehow with out really using the upper left vein. BUT it still appears to be open. Smaller than normal, but open!

I know it's confusing, but at the end if it all after today's cath the most important thing I got from it all is......... HOPE! Hope that Mason may get blood through his left lung after transplant. Maybe, just maybe, He will have 2 functional lungs after transplant! Okay, so that may be a pretty high hope........but as I've learned through this heart journey with Miracle Mason, "hope and pray for the best but prepare for the worst", or as I'd rather say- prepare for the unexpected.

I'm off to return to Mason's bedside and hold his hand!

More GREAT NEWS.........Mark and the kiddos are coming to visit for Easter! Mason and I will get to see them tomorrow night (Friday) or Saturday morning. (Depending if they drive straight through or not.) We are very excited :-)
